Sigma 18-50 f2.8 macro

I borrowed this lens to complement my 70-200 2.8 VR for shooting a wedding on the weekend. Initially I wanted to go with a 17-55 Nikon but I found the macro function on the Sigma could be an advantage and I was told the Sigma is nice and sharp too.
I must say I was quite surprised by the performance, it was great! The macro was indeed a plus, allowed me nice shots of the wedding rings and flowers etc. The focus wasn't the fastest but that didn't really matter. And considering this lens can be had for about a third of the price of the 17-55, I am now considering adding this to my inventory. The range of the zoom was spot on as well.
Any other opinions/experiences on the Sigma 18-50 2.8 macro?
