two more from this lens but both shots hand held leaning on a post....... I was heading out to the car to get a tripod and these flew into the garden.....

This one was quite happy to just sit

250th @ 2.8 ISO 400 matrix metering

caught this as he took off with just no warning...... and my camera was set on single frame, but not next time
Image
800th @ 2.8 ISO 400 matrix metering

both shots are full frame, a little twek in levels, convert to jpg and post...... no sharpening has been applied at all to these images and these shots show just how sharp this lens can be. My focus point was the eye

Nice and sharp - but does anyone think the bokeh isn't that nice?

Especially in #1 the flowers above/behind the birds head are weird - maybe they moved too?....

#2 is better but still not WOW bokeh in my eye..... but I bet it would be nice stopped down - maybe f8 or 11? - so less out of focus.

It may be the lighting in this shot but the bokeh is not as creamy as you would hope for a 300mm 2.8

this may help those that do not understand about very busy backgrounds close to your subject, and shooting at 2.8 with a long lens......... the Sigma does have great bokeh when shooting at 2.8, but does not show in the top 2 pixs due to the background being close to the subject and harsh lighting in the second, so here is a shot with a plain background showing the bokeh of the lens to its best..........

big V thanks for the tip

Yep that is what I meant.... instead of harsh bokeh, have a sharp background that is in focus..... Ï just used a double negative in my post.

#3 is a very nice pic.... I'd be happy with that. Hmmm another lens to consider getting....

The 3rd shot is awesome, I really like the 2nd as well, the bokeh is not great but the image is still great. The 1st image is good, but the background is distracting. Great sharpness and colour in all the images though.

Well that clears up the bokeh issue. Great 3rd shot.

The first two look like what I get using my Sigma 70 - 300 F4-5.6 Macro, but the 3rd one is very nice indeed!
