Not really a review, more of a plug, everytime I put this lens on I am astounded at the images I get out of it, I paid less than 200 bucks for it a few years back and almost on sold it, very glad I never did. If you happen to chance upon one of these at a good price, even if you have the range covered or don't like manual focus lens, I strongly recommend considering it. I popped it out to get a bit more length on a shot then looked later on and saw the people on the rocks - the sharpness over that range is awesome, the crop does not do it justice, on the raw file the people are nicely pixelated with not an ounce of blur!

WOW....reminiscent of that Ai Nikkor 135mm f/2.8 that I picked up courtesy of a forum member, good old Nikkor glass. PS I am still keeping a look out for decent stuff coming through work 2nd hand as well.

Impressive resolving capacity! I assume this is a single cropped shot at 10MP?

Yep! A classic Nikkor. The 85mm, 105mm and 180mm manual focus Nikkors are pure gold! Gerry...that image is a cracker. There's something compellingly beautiful about it.

keep me informed Cam, I am a sucker for the old stuff... surenj wrote:Impressive resolving capacity! I assume this is a single cropped shot at 10MP?
its initially cropped pano style to remove the boring bits then a following tight crop on the people on the rocks.. Matt. K wrote:Yep! A classic Nikkor. The 85mm, 105mm and 180mm manual focus Nikkors are pure gold!
I thin the 85mm would be a good length, I find the 105mm a bit to long most times, on full frame it would probably be perfect! Matt. K wrote:Gerry...that image is a cracker. There's something compellingly beautiful about it.
it was taken with the 105 f2.5...thats why surprisingly this lens has delivered me some very nice lanscape shots, I just sometimes...only sometimes, just put it on and see what comes out, each time I have not been disappointed.

So I've just picked up one of these on Ebay for $246. I hope none of you were bidding against me. Looking forward to putting it through its paces. Gerry.....it's all your fault!

I bought one of these when I was in HKG a couple of years back, and it's a delightful piece of glass.
