Here are a couple of pics taken with my new Tamron 90mm f2.8 macro. One is a macro shot and the other at the other end of the spectrum (a landscape).

The macro was taken at an aperture of f45 (the lens actually stops down to f54)

Hi meicw,

I'm thinking about going macro.
I have been considering the Tamron 90mm, Nikon 105 , Nikon 200mm.
You mentioned a potentialliy interesting detail: f-stop down to 54 ?
May I ask where you got the lense from and how much did it set you back ?

What a pair of contrasts from a single lens. The first shot doesn't excite me (apart from it showing the lens's potential), but the second one is excellent.

I'd like to see the first shot retaken. Several times, each with a different aperture.

I think it would be interesting to see the different accuities that this sort of exercise might provide, and would help you to find the sweet spot of this lens.

Here is another shot of the tap, taken at f16. The nut is sharper, but even at f45, the sharpness is, IMHO, more than acceptable.
Christian, I bought the lens from Camera Action in Elizabeth St Melbourne. It cost me $670. And yes it does stop down to f54. The lens does extend though the closer the focus, but the front element is recessed a far way into the barrel. So it is not a good idea to use the supplied lens hood when in macro mode. Another feature that I like is that to change from autofocus to manual you push/pull the lens barrel. A blue line appears around the barrel when manual is engaged just as a reminder.

For a macro shot I prefer the second one..........

I love macro photography, but can't afford to splurge just yet. Thanks for posting these images ........ gives me another lense to think about.
