Which would be better, this or the Archos G-Mini 400?

Think the Archos retails around $550-600.

Just looking at the Archos I'd say the other one looks better (3.5" on the non Archos)

Wish I never knew about these now!

Do you know if the batteries are removable for the DB-100?

Battery life is pretty pathetic, mind you.

I have the Archos AV420 and love every minute of it. I got it for use as a portable storage device for downloading from CF card and also as an MP3 player as an alternative to the iPod or similar. I use it every day as an MP3 player although I actually use WMA format. I also plug it into a set of speakers for use as a stereo in my hotel room.

For CF offline storage it works just fine although I haven't used it much for that as I don't generally take more that 800mb of shots in one day (the limit of my CF cards). I do think it would be ideal for travelling though.

Cheers
Dean

Yeah I'm wondering if I should get the Archos AV420.

What price have you got yours for Dean? When I looked at expansys and a few other places they were like $1000+AU but I've seen one on ebay for $529.99US ($700AU).

Kipper,

I got it in Hong Kong for $3800hk (about $655au) but I think the price may have gone up since.

Cheers
Dean

Yeah I've seen them for like $1100-1200AU, which is too expensive imho.
I'd want to spend $800 max for it.

Yep! for a temp. storage, I won't spend much money on it.
I rather spend on top tripod and top ballhead with that sum or save more and spend on the glasses.

Yeah if I was to use it for purely storage only I wouldn't want to spend $300. But seeing as I'm going away for atleast 2 months I thought an MP3 player would come in handy so I thought lets spend $500. Heck if I can get the AVR420 for $800 a Video/Photo player would be great too!

:)

At the moment as I said I have a Nikon F80 + Nikkor 28-70 + Sigma 70-300mm. Going to try out the Sigma 70-300mm on the Nikon D70 when I get it. Play around with it for a while before I decide to get new glass.

What sort of price would I pay for the SB-600DX or SB-800DX flash?
From what I saw they're quite expensive.

I want everything,
Honestly, the first Pioneer portable DVD player with 9" LCD, I bought in HKG 5 years ago (AU$1100.00), after few weeks I passed it to my son, no more interest, same as many MP3 player w/ Hdd from Creative and came back to the real PSD 60Gb purely storage image, no more MP3 or other fancy stuff, keep it simple cos no time to listening or play around with it.

With the SB-800, many members from our community are happy with Mr Poon, he's selling for $470.00 or $480.00 including shipping, 2-4 days deliver to your door, the last member purchased it was our Geoffc.

Very tempted Birddog. Just want to wait until my Apple iPod sells on eBay first. Plus I want to look into the Archos AV420 a bit more and compare the two.

What sort of time frame can I expect from order to delivery?
As I said I'm going away soon, so I don't want to place an order if it can't be delivered. PS. the DB-100 bid has just gone upto $815 with 8hrs left on the bid :)

Hey Birdy, do you have any idea what portable AV units they're starting to use on Australian Domestic Flights and Air New Zealand flights to Auckland?

I saw in the newspaper earlier this week that they're starting to offer inflight movies for 2+hr flights. Just wondered what they're using.

Sorry, I have no ideas, they do have inflight movie all the time with their International Flight

Yeah, they're built into the actual back of the seats. These are for flights without those AV units built into the seats. When you check in you can rent a portable AV unit and a movie to take onboard.

No, haven't seen that one, check with other member, who's just came back from o/s. I think it's the way how they try to make money on traveller, but who's bother in doing that?
I'll take my notebook + spare battery with one or two new DVD movies and enjoy myself or copy movies into the Hdd and sitback & relax watching.

Birdy, do you know much about the Archos AV320 and AV420?

Seen some really strange prices with them. Some places have the AV320 for $950, but the AV420 for $1100, other places have the AV420 for $950 and the AV320 for $1100.

I would of thought looking at the models that the AV420 is the better product and as such should be priced more. Wonder if the store in question has made a pricing blunder and got the prices muddled up. If so I might take advantage of it :)

Edited: Just checked and expansys have the AV420 listed as $895, where they have the AV320 for $1040. Bizarre.
