My shiny new lens just turned up and all i want to do is leave and take photos with it.

Out of interest is anyone elses focus ring stiff? will it ease up with use or is it just an anomoly of the lens.....

nope... my focus ring is feather light... my zoom ring (the one closer to the cam body) takes a bit of work to move

Yep... it is moving a lot of glass...

a hint: move the colar into the upright position for easy hand held access to the zoom ring...

and dont be surpised when you go out and shoot and your images look like crap... took me a while to get used to hand holding this beast at long focal lengths.. but once you get it still the images are SHARP!

I work with another member and he looked at the lens with a little envy (you know you did) he has the 70 - 200 VR but trying to hand hold that monster would be allot harder than hand holding this featherweight (by comparision).....

Let me tell you why you need the VR with the Nikon 70-200 - the thing ways significantly more than the Sigma variant

I've had my lens for almost a year now and the zoom ring is still reasonably stiff, I'm actually quite used to it now and prefer it that way

Just a question for everyone who has this lens..

Is anyone using this lens with a teleconverter?

I am thinking of getting one once I get to the point where I want extra length (those email I always get never are talking about teleconveters for some reaosn)

What will work with this lens and what is good ect.....

enjoy the new toy!

cant wait to get mine - ordered it from HKS last night complete with the sigma 105 macro :D :D ..........finally saw the light - £1200 and a long wait for the 70-200 VRor £680, including post for the 2 sigmas - leaves plenty of cash from the budget to spend on other goodies - Gitzo springs to mind 8)
once they arrive i think my needs will be covered - i have the 24-70 sigma in the bag already......that reminds me, i'll need a new bag........

FYI Sigma has just released a newer version of their teleconverters. A thread is on the main page. It goes along with the newer DG lenses. Sigma has so many letters after its name now DG HSM EX to name a few.
