AF Nikkor 14mm f/2.8D ED

Does anybody have experience with this lens? How does it compare to the 12-24mm DX zoom at 14mm? Better, as good, inferior?

I am asking because I recently tested the 12-24mm DX and was appalled at the results and am hoping that there is a better alternative to get to the field of view on a 1.52 crop of a 20/21mm on 36x24.

The 14mm lens is better than the 12-24mm however they are not a practical lens in that its front element is very bulbous, making it difficult to look after and protect. Have a look at the Tokina 12-24mm, its good value for the price.

The 14mm would walk all over the 12-24 @ 14mm.

I haven't used both at same time, but have used both. The 14mm was mega cool.

The front element does stick out a long way - you can't put front filters on it so you need to be careful with handling it. Great lens though.
