Good picture, albeit a little on the flat side. I feel like I think I need something in the foreground to give it some depth.

It's really orange too. I recommend you take a can of red paint and or blood and splatter it on the cliff to give it a splash of color.

xerubus, the dominance of the red/orange tends to overpower any colour context. I think it would have benefited from something green or blue. Easier said than done no doubt at the red cliffs!

Otherwise, it is a good shot of these spectacular cliffs.

Before I'd read any of what the others had written I was going to say that I thought that it lacked something in the foreground and that the red in the background was a bit too dominating..hahaha...so 'what they said' here...Maybe as suggested try and blue up the water in photoshop or something? Could be fun?! Nice shot anyhow!

Gday Mark & Happy New Year

You have some great pix on your web site.

I think this one just misses out because it is a little flat, as others have said. I love the principle colour though.

I know that the photographer cannot always control the environment he/she is in, or the time of day in which to shoot, but what I think would make this shot a lot better would be to be able to show some of the texture of the cliffs.

This would probably mean shooting at a different time of day, say early am or late pm; and may not have been possible for you.

it was one of those shots where you wonder whether it can make it or not... the reds are amazing, and unfortunately that's the natural colour of the cliffs, so quite difficult to work with...

i like the idea of getting some more blue ... may see what i can do...

Hi Xerubus. I like this shot. The texture of the cliffs is amazing and I think you've captured it well, although I wonder if it could be made a bit sharper. IMHO, if I were you, I'd go back and retake some shots of these cliffs with the d70 and see if the results offer more clarity. I sometimes find that predominant reds and oranges sometimes "blow out" the shot a bit, and result in some loss of detail...dont know what to do about this myself.

It works for me as it is, i think Monet would have been able to produce something similar on canvas.

However, perhaps a rich blue or green sea would contrast very nicely with the rich red of the cliff. But i like the image and i can see what you were trying to create.

Xerebus, I like the shot very much. I agree with Killa, it does remind you of an impressionist painting. I agree that a little more blue in the sea would make this outstanding.
