just got back from New Zeland Fashion week
I was shooting runway for CREAM magazine and backstage for FOLLOW mag so i had my hands full

overall it was fantastic. The New Zealand labels are world class
and the event attracted much more attention than Australian fashion week held 2 weeks earlier

this is the main venue with the standard fashion week lighting rig that provides that razor sharp definition on the models and garments, it looks pretty bright but it's still considered a low light situation
shot this one with the 12-24dx


technical runway from the Liz Mitchell show. i shot this one tight to fill the frame more, it looks more flattering that way but when shooting for magazines a full length shot is preferred

after 5 back to back fashion weeks i'm sure i have nailed my runway shooting technique, this is as sharp as you'll get in low light with the 70-200 vr off AF-C 1/250 ISO640 f4.5, this is a 100% crop from the d2x


my fashion week wrap:
Zambesi was the best show in terms of fashion and show atmosphere
but i liked the kooky play on the little red riding hood theme in Kate Sylvester's collection
Trelise Cooper had the wow factor her show was held at the st james theatre kind of looks like a parisian opera house - grand palais

You're learning, and you're improving.

I love the way that you have aligned the first of these images: the line of heads along the bottom is basically parallel to the bottom of the image, thus anchoring it as if it has a straight horizon. But clearly that is not the case, as evidenced by the catwalk. Great stuff, and good work on the exposure and mood that your choice of exposure has set in this one.

And the third image is just wonderful. Great pose, well lit ...

VR hinders the focus performance of the lens and on a pod it fights with the stabilisation somewhat i find i get the actual focus point area in focus but sicne the lens is stabilising the head or bottom of the image is blurred

its got nothing to do with fstops i shoot runway at f4.5 opossed to f2.8 which i used to

and nothing to do with shutterspeed im shoting 1/200 at 200mm

the canon runway shooters turn IS off too

i only use vr when the lighting is too low like at the start of a show when the lighting is moody and im shooting at 200mm far end at 1/150 or something to get correct exposure
