This is an area for you to post images so that you may share with us a technique that you have mastered, or are trying to master. Forum rules
Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent.

Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature.

Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread.

Please also ensure that you have a meaningful location included in your profile. Please refer to the FAQ for details of what "meaningful" is.

At Freshie

Spent part of Sunday afternoon at Freshwater Beach (and didn't see Geoff lurking anywhere   ) with camera in hand. We probably should have gone about half an hour later for better light, but with an 11month dictating terms, we didn't have the option).

My PP was minimal but was at the lower contrast end of the spectrum (particularly given the light).

These first 2 were on the rocks with the waves crashing (sufficiently far) behind them. I was trying to time the shots to coincide with a nice big wave.

One B&W, one in colour.

Two more just behind the pools, looking back west. I found it difficult trying to balance ambient (background) light with sufficient flash, notwithstanding being about 4 meters away from the subjects. Hence, fill flash had about +2FC, at about f2-3.5 with shutter speeds up to 1/3000ths or so.

I forgot that I could bump up the ISO to, say, 200 or 400 to allow greater DOF.

I appreciate your feedback and criticism. :D

Thanks Glen. I think I would have preferred a slightly larger DOF, but was happy with the results. Gotta love the high speed synch of the SB800! :D

Nice work Patrick,
I agree with Glen though, the last image is the best of the lot here, followed closely by the 3rd image (nice to see MrsR smiling).
I find (as you mentioned yourself) the glare/haze in the 2nd image behind MrsR and Alex a bit distracting. Such a great spot for a photo shoot! :)

Patrick. I am also a fan of #4, but i think #3 is damn fine as well - although I think it's a little too bright and saturated - I'd be inclined to back off on both slightly

Thanks for the feedback, guys. I appreciate it. Peter, I did bump up the exposure in ACR but didn't really touch the saturation a great deal, if it all.
