Couple from my Dad's 60th over the weekend.

Outside over lunch. Used some fill flash from the SB800 as they were in the shade of the veranda.

Like the second. They look more relaxed (maybe a wine or two ). For me the skin tones a little too red/yellow in the second, so if you could get the skin tones of the first in the pose of the second you'd be sweet. Perhaps a WB thing.

I agree with the wb comments. I would perhaps even crop the lady from the first as it looks like she is eating and isn't very flattering. Your dad looks good in the first though.

I'm not a big fan of flash, but I'm going against the flow here: I think the first image is a better character shot of both people than the second one. The lady might be eating but she is displaying focus and appreciation towards your main subject (although she just might be looking behind him). You have captured your Dad with one of those expressions that indicate he's pretty happy with himself, even proud.

Nothing wrong with the second photo apart from the colour balance, but it's a clearly a posed shot. I guess it depends what the image will get used for...

Thanks for the comments. First was more of a grab shot, at least of her, second was definitely posed as they wanted a nice photo of the two of them. We were all a few wines down at that point Funnily enough it doesn't look anywhere near as red on my screen at home as it does on mine and Craig's at work. Time to calibrate again! Just need to buy a spyder or something.

Oddly, checking the camera WB it is set to flash, and the ceiling was white... or at least close to it. Perhaps we really were all a tad red faced after some hours of drinking!
