These really give a feel for how desolate places can be.
Even the shrubs in the background are doing it tough. Nice colour too. Regards Colin

man, its a rough old time when all ya got to hang on to is a crusty old rock
 I really love the second image, as Colin mentioned, it really conveys the desolation. It would be interesting to see if you could get a bit more light from the rock and maybe just darken the sky a little, but that could just be due to my monitor... It almost looks like there was some flash used there? gerry's photography journey

Not due to your monitor gerry. I have edited the second pic to heighten the foreground & lower the background and think it's an improvement. What do you think? ( i had to clear history to view the edited shot) It was one of those times when you have others traveling/walking with you, you spot a good subject a little out of the way, and because you don't want to hold them up (One can't be selfish too often or the other half will change her mind about another trip  ) you don't take the time to set up tripods, remotes ect to do it justice. It was exposed to background light with the iso dialed up to allow hand holding at 1/100th F18 iso400 @24mm and well picked gerry, fill flash, as i was shooting west in the early afternoon.Next trip I'll go back to the spot alone. As east is over my right shoulder in that shot, sunrise light would be ideal, as opposed to the 1.30pm touristy walk we were on that day with family.
