First weekend with new 300mm lens - #2 - ElephantsThe highlight of the zoo visit was of course the little baby elephant, Luk Chai. The first shot taken with the 300mm and a 1.7x TC. Clearly the age-old rule that anything in miniature is automatically cuter still applies here even if the subject in question is over 150kg!!!
Re: First weekend with new 300mm lens - #2 - ElephantsThe first one is very nice and crisp, did put a smile on my face.

Re: First weekend with new 300mm lens - #2 - ElephantsWow...that rule surely holds true there! i really like the action in the 1st and the 2nd is really nice as well with the contrast showing the actual size of little Luk Chai. #3 is a classic!!
Great stuff mate! Cameron

Re: First weekend with new 300mm lens - #2 - ElephantsThanks for the feedback guys He sure is a little cutie and since we also bought zoo memberships on the day, we're looking to go back every few weeks to see how he is getting on!! He was hilarious in the soccer game - he was chasing enthusiastically after the ball everywhere it went, and basically getting in the way of the other elephants. His aunties and mum all love him though - pic # 1 was where he panicked for some reason and ran screaming. Two seconds later, there were 4 big elephants surrounding him to protect him.
Rooz, from memory #1 was uncropped - I remember thinking at the time that it was lucky he fit in the frame. AF-S 300mm f/2.8 (Version 1) with a 1.7x TC, so 510mm all up. I think i had it stopped down to f/5.6 from the f/4.8 that the TC leaves you with.
Re: First weekend with new 300mm lens - #2 - Elephantsdamn man, you have hands of freakin steel !! 510mm filling the frame and get it so perfect. well done.
