Whale BeachI'll keep this short and sweet, overall I was disapointed in my images, I am gonna blaming teh babbling mess the 4 hours of sleep left me in
there is quite an amount of dynamic range at this location and on this particular day and I found alot of my bracketed shots did not capture enough, quite often under exposed one had blown hightlights. i found I had some nice compositions from the seascape but was let down in the technical department, this only means one thing, I wil have to go back for another crack Not the best composition and the water was more like the a piddly stream in this one, but I did have enough dynamic range. sky was soo bloody crap in this i chopped it out... damn lens, why can't they make one that does not have flares I really like teh composition on this one and I nailed the timing with the water, but the PP let me down and the sun looks crap there are more flares than at a man. united football match. again, I liked the composition but I have never really nailed any good shots directly into the sun - what am I doing wrong here? No amount of processing will fix bad composition - trust me i have tried.
Re: Whale BeachGreat to see your shots from Saturday morning, but at the same time I have to admit that they seem a bit overcooked for my liking. Do you have any single frame shots to share?

Re: Whale Beach# 1 the blown sky lets this image down, Part of the rock area to me is a little dark and with can be fixed or improved if you have the experience
# 2 not a lot of interest in this capture...... needs a longer exposure for more water movement to create more interest # 3..... see # 1 same applies..... water movement looks good # 4 The top half of this image has appeal...... the lack of movement in the water area lets this image down, hence the crop to improve...... overall a longer exposure to get better water movement would of helped a lot..... this comes with time and experience ...... all 4 images tend to dip on the right hand side just a little Cheers ....bp....
Difference between a good street photographer and a great street photographer.... Removing objects that do not belong... happy for the comments, but .....Please DO NOT edit my image..... http://bigpix.smugmug.com Forever changing
Re: Whale BeachNice to see that you went out there!
Looks like you had tough conditions. Was the tides low? You weren't too lucky with the clouds either. To reduce flare in the HDR, I usually edit each bracket for flare before putting them through photomatix. Otherwise everything is too amplified in the end. Otherwise the flare is inherent for wideangles and I am not sure what you can do to minimise them (perhaps get the 12-24 ). Your lenses and sensor may not be quite clean! [how often do you clean those? ] I have got into the habit of cleaning after each seascape shoot. I find my filters and front elements collect alot of salt spray which causes major headaches later. #3 is the best out of these IMO. The composition is good and you captured some wave action. Maybe reprocess without the flare and see where you can get to. To further Cameron's comment, I would suggest reducing the saturation a touch in photomatix. I hope to join you for the next attempt!
