St Mary's Cathedral...

I took my girls to see a few of the exhibitions on in the city on the weekend (Paths to Abstraction and Alfred Stieglitz the Lake George Years as well as World Press Photo 2010 and 1440). Of course I took my camera with me and captured a few images along the way.

I am not so sure whether the water is in focus or whether there is camera shake, it seems to be a bit too blurry.

#3 love the perspective, rule of thirds for the light and tones. Great capture!

Agreed. I can't figure it out myself.

Love the black and white ones though. Gives it such a gothic historic feel to the images

Thanks - yes I was also dissapointed when I finally saw the shot in Lightroom as well

I was aiming for a very out of focus background and I had initially hoped for a sharp water image but suspect the shutter speed was too slow to freeze the water and perhaps there was a little camera shake as well (handheld). I do plan to reshoot this sometime with a different (faster) lens and much higher shutter speed.

However I thought the antique treatment almost saved the image in a complex arty way (it looked unusable in original colour).

I did face the same problem, it's one of a few things I guess :

1. Complete focus issue.
2. cloudy day... I guess in the most laman terms i can think of : light wasn't contrasty, which water kindly runs through it's shape.
3. Shutterspeed can be an issue in some circumstances, but i dont think it's that fast is it?
4. Raw processing, clarity.

#1 is def a reshoot...I would go a faster shutter speed, your focus doesnt look too bad but it is a bit hard to tell.

#2 and #3 really work well in BW, and a nice candidates for a sky transplant....

#4 is a nice concept, which lens was this, you have a bit of colour fringing in the branches....shame about the whited out sky
