Long Reefage

It was a good morning, lots of opportunities for interesting and dynamic compositions, it does not matter if the sky was not crash hot since there was plenty of small wave action to compensate..

I made use of my newly aquired Lee filter system and have started learning teh pitfalls already..one of which is don't stack it with a screw on polariser..

I was happy with some of my compositions but the execution left quite a bit to be desired. I definitely need practice with these filter thingys..

this first one was an awesome composition imo, however I had to chop out flare and there is still the dark side due to the CPL..spewing..

Gerry

I agree the composition on #1 is great, but sad to say that the way dark top right hand corner you're annoyed about ruins it for me - go back and do it right

So #2 is the pick of these - still has interesting composition, nice even light and good colour. #3 OTOH looks too unnatural and doesn't work for me.

noice very noice.

yep! I didn't quite see this one. My attempts failed as the flare was too much anyways.
The only improvement I could think of is to push the grad higher to reveal detail on the mid ground rocks.
Great wave action.

#3 you have done well to control any flare on this despite your filters. The compo isn't as strong and I am sure you got better compos around the couldran area in the front.

I am not crazy about the pano. Seems to lack a focal point somewhat. But then I am not that good at seeing these panos anyway.

#1 looks really good, I had the same issue with flare and dark corners etc...That is a shot I didnt collect though..next time
#2 isnt quite right...a lot like quite a few of mine...it just lacks something
#3 looks like the HDR I threw out!!! Someone else may like it, but I'm with Peter, it looks too CGI for me
#4 doesnt do it for me...its lacking that WOW!

Great to catch up, tear into my images!!! They will be up soon

yeah it sucks when you look at the image on the comp at home and go, 'shite...i should have pushed that a bit highe'r..its so hard to tell on the LCD..

straight down teh barrel is usually not a problem, its the offset ones where she lights up like a christmas tree... :rotfl2:

fair call, in hindsight..there's lots of water in there... :cough:

I like #1 and #2.

With #1 given the vignette in the top right - since it seems to be fashion these days to vignette the corners of landscapes and seascapes to "draw the attention of the viewer in" or whatever - perhaps you could similarly vignette the other corners to make it less obvious that it was just one corner?

I noticed the other comments about #2 but I quite like it - is that weeds on the bottom right? - however it makes me feel like it's tilting slightly down to the right?

Like others #3 doesn't do it for me - not just the colours and light but I'm not sure I go for the composition - I took a few vertical down the barrel of the sun too but when I looked at them on the computer I basically discarded them all.

#1 is my pick as well but maybe you could use a bit of dlighting and a control point in capture to lighten the TRH and add a bit of light and texture to the rocks (spend 11 minutes on it)
#2 needs the sun in the top LHC to work... Shame the area was blown
#3 Never really fond of having the sun right in the centre of the sky.
#4 lacks some foreground interest.Too much water

there is flare on the bottom right and also just rocks and shells. The horizon is a bit off, I find its becoming a common theme..

yeah, I kinda gave up on that one, the vignetting on the top right just has the wrong colours there and its all too hard to fix...good idea on applying the vignetting on teh other corners tho..

11 minutes...c'mon man..thats over double my limit for a single frame image :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Yes I tried teh d-light and control point but I assure you it does not have enough range to pull that back, the noise is pretty bad in those spots..

#3 Never really fond of having the sun right in the centre of the sky.

yeah its an engineer thing.. symmetry is gold   . But yes thats a good idea to think about placing the sun off centre..

#4 lacks some foreground interest.Too much water
