Ten Stop Bare...During a recent trip to Sydney's eastern suburbs I took a quick down to Bare Island at La Perouse and whipped out the B+W 10 Stop ND filter at sunset for some stopping of time and space.
The first image is my monochrome conversion and the second is the original in colour - comments welcomed... Ten Stop Bare NIKON D7000 + 17.0-50.0 mm f/2.8 @ 17 mm, 58 sec at f/16, ISO 100 + ND3.0 D600, D7000, Nikon/Sigma/Tamron Lenses, Nikon Flashes, Sirui/Manfrotto/Benro Sticks

Re: Ten Stop Bare...Whilst the colour version is preferable, I find the image lacks real impact for me. I put it down to the inability to discern detail in the objects on the island and therefore left with an image which is either too complicated without the detail or too simple to absorb the detail into a grander image. Not sure if that makes sense.

Two or three lights, any lens on a light-tight box are sufficient for the realisation of the most convincing image. Man Ray 1935. Our mug is smug
Re: Ten Stop Bare...What does the BW conversion add to the scene?
I would say nothing and more to teh point it reduces the impact of the image. The second version is more pleasing in my eyes. Overall the ND effect has produced an effect to compliment scene in a subtle way. The composition feels cutoff and unfinished due to the lack of the island on teh right side, however this could be just the fact I know what is there rather than an objective view. gerry's photography journey
No amount of processing will fix bad composition - trust me i have tried.
Re: Ten Stop Bare...Thanks for the feedback guys - I'll have another ten stopper image from the weekend up soon

Re: Ten Stop Bare...Hi rodney,
Definitely wanting a bit more space which will enhance the tranquil feel you are going for. Also bump the saturation on the color picture a little as well.

Thanks Suren - I ordered the Tokina 12-24 yesterday so hopefully that might assist me in the space department next time D600, D7000, Nikon/Sigma/Tamron Lenses, Nikon Flashes, Sirui/Manfrotto/Benro Sticks

Re: Ten Stop Bare...
Each to their own but I find that stepping a few steps back cheaper and almost as effective.... Nice purchase though, is this lens compatible with fullframe?
Re: Ten Stop Bare...
It is fine to use from about 14-15mm from my testing on a film body. Cameron

Re: Ten Stop Bare...I prefer the colour image. I like the warm tones in it.
A bit more cloud movement would've been nice, but you can't help that one.
