Forum rules
Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent.

Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature.

Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread.

Hi guys,

Got the chance to do some more light painting the last weekend and thought I'd share some of the shots...

It was extremely windy that night which made it hard to control the light, but I got there in the end.

C & C appreciated as always.

Hi Adam - I like the idea of the distortion in the first but maybe it needed even more (closer) to really emphasise it - making it a statement which is intentional. I don't like it in the second and I reckon you'd have been better off getting further away and using a longer focal length for this angle of view.

Lighting wise I like the balance of the ambient you've got - that twilight sky is very nice - the jeep is perhaps a little too well (evenly) lit perhaps (maybe a few subtle shadows would have been nice) but thats possibly just a personal feel.

Thanks Rodney.

I've never tried anything other than short focal lengths. I'll definitely have to take a longer lens next time and work with that for a bit.

Thanks for the suggestion. :)

Superb work as usual Adam, the first is the standout for me. I can't offer any suggestions for improvement, you nailed it!

I think this is a very good sample of how light painting
is used as a tool to enhance an image and not as a
subjects on on its own. Well done!

Nice Adam, as I mentioned on gplus, i think the harsh light line on the ground could do with a bit of feathering and those pipes in the BG are bit annoying. Other than that they are pretty cool.

Whilst white subjects are easy to light, I think they present a light uniformity issue, often you get those patches of grey which i find annoying, they can't be explained away as shadows and for me I have found selectively brightening and desaturating some areas in post can help the uniformity.

No amount of processing will fix bad composition - trust me i have tried.
