Nooooodity !

Got a thin skin? Then look elsewhere. Post a link to an image that you've made, and invite others to offer their critiques. Honesty is encouraged, but please be positive in your constructive criticism. Flaming and just plain nastiness will not be tolerated. Please note that this is not an area for you to showcase your images, nor is this a place for you to show-off where you have been. This is an area for you to post images so that you may share with us a technique that you have mastered, or are trying to master. Typically, no more than about four images should be posted in any one post or thread, and the maximum size of any side of any image should not exceed 950 px.

Forum rules
Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent.

Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature.

Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread.

Please also ensure that you have a meaningful location included in your profile. Please refer to the FAQ for details of what "meaningful" is.

while i just adore my fuji...there are some things that the fuji is just incapable of producing. the dynamic range and detail of this damn d800e is staggering. i've never experienced anything like it.

what a goddam stunning weekend we just had !!! for those of us poor souls in sydney that have endured weekend after weekend of RUBBISH weather...i hope you all got to enjoy the sun !

I believe it's because you've sized your images at 1000 pixels across - and thus the forum resizes them down (and therefore you get softening - and that red line around your image indicating it was too large). I size mine at 925 pixels across so they don't get resized.

Ahhh...thanks. Remind me again why we don't have 1000px images ? It's not that dial up thing again is it surely ?

They are all great for different reasons.
I prefer 1 & 3; there is a very candit
attitude in them.

The dynamic range of the D800 and D800E is 14.5 stops according to DxO if I remember correctly. This is certainly impressive and I wondered whether I would not need to bracket any more for HDR with my D800. I conducted a test and took a nine-stop bracket in late afternoon of a scene that ranged from black objects in shadow inside to a dead tree with a white trunk in full sunlight outside. I found that I needed all 9 exposures to capture the contrast range which therefore was around 23 stops.

Of course the extra dynamic range of the D800/E does help and does greatly reduce the need for realistic HDR especially if you do shoot RAW and adjust in Lightroom. Images 1 and 4 here, though, appear to have blocked shadows that are much darker than you would actually see them.
