Under the umbrella treeI think I'm starting to enjoy this Sigma 105 lens.
What do you think of this image? __________

Very nice shot Phillip but I am beginning to not like frames. Unfortunately, IMHO, in the size the pic is presented on these threads the frame, unless very simplistic, detracts from the pic by overpowering it.
That’s only my opinion so you can shoot me when you are next in Sydney Chris

Did you use a speedlight for this shot?

This is a bit harsh, but in my honest opinion.
I love the subject, but i know you can do better. Great colour contrast, an interesting subject, i'm still not sure what it is exactly, but i think you have let it down a bit with the composition. I think for what it is, there is too much in the picture. The focus is on the red and black thing, but i keep looking at the green leaves of both the brolly-tree? and the fern/palm below, which isn't even relevant to your subject, it just got in the way. I would be interested to know how big the branch intersection is. I watch with great interest as your skills with the lens 'evolve.' It's a great lens and i am sure you will do great things with it. Keep it up and please keep on posting pics. I like your perspectives. Steve.

Thanks for your honest opinion Steve,
To answer some of your questions, the main trunks belong to the umbrella tree, they're about 8" diameter, right behind it is a palm tree which makes its way through the trunks, the red thingy is part of the palm tree, I think they are the seeds from it. The dark area is the colorbond fence which I darkened in photoshop, maybe I should have cloned out the bottom palm branch too, instead of making it more visible. __________
