Cracks into Hell

Taken sometime ago with a series of shots. I was getting impatient as the storm was not giving much sky to ground lightning but in the end I caught two good captures, suprisingly this one looks the best now that I look at it. Love it when nature shows its other side of beauty.

Good capture of a difficult subject. One very small thing is maybe meter more for the Optus sign, it seems a bit blown out.

Interesting shot. I like the extra brightness of some the cloud area, which I presume is the result of internal lightening bolts.

I like this shot very much - I know Glen has suggested metering for the Optus sign and there are two ways to go on this. Shoot the Optus sign again and clone it in or remove it by cloning out. This bright spot tends to detract from the beautiful cloud colours on the right hand side

I love the colour of the lightning in this, it's great. I really can't wait to start taking lightning pics with the D70, but when there is a distinct lack of storms in the Melbourne area, it doesn't help. Well captured of a very tricky subject. I would like to see the other from that night, too, if you could possibly post that one??

I tried doing so before and playing with the sign from another post however the lighting of the clouds really conflicts with the blue illumination from the Optus sign, so I had great difficulty combining the two without making it look artifitial. hence the original shot.

Wow, what a cool shot with neat colors. It is a very moody picture. Like the other, I agree that bright neon light is a bit distracting.

problem with the neon, when I tried to bump the contrast it looked even more exaggerated and like a white block. you couldn't even differentiate the letters - so I had to refrain, the lights around the sign are very intense. you might not notice it .. but try editing the optus sign and instantly you get a very big difference in light. The blue illumination stretches for quite some distance making it hard to edit from dark - to bright and back to dark looks artificial.

I think it does make a nice effect though with blue and red on the left side of the portion (tad bright)

Well as we know this is not an easy task to capture things like this, and have never done it but i love the picture, ok the sighn is a bit out of whack but still great pic.
