Ok I just bought (ebay) a hotshoe - tripod adaptor (my sb-80dx does not come with one)

So I got my model to test it!

The indoor ones are taken using the flash on a cheap tripod with a small home made softbox (~10cm x7cm). I made the soft box from a box (which 10 blank CD's came from) stickytaping the edges, cutting a flash sized hole in one end and cutting out the other end and putting greaseproof paper over it...

The outdoor ones are taken using flash with the extra wide angle adaptor down (the flip one, unfortunately my plastic diffuser dome is AWOL)
All images are taken with the 105/2.8 Micro-nikkor

some good moments there MHD,
what i could suggest is that you use some white cardboard to fill-in those heavy shadows across the childs nose.

#2 for me MHD, although they are all lovely shots and the suggestion of a white card reflector is a good suggestion.

#2 because your little one obviously enjoys eating vegetarian style and the look is one of ”you may take my photo - but the food is all MINE” :D

great shots ......... also you could add another layer or 2 of greaseproof paper will soften the flash a bit more, or make the distance of the front of the flash to the front of the paper greater ie: if it is 4 inches now make it 8, this will also make the light softer as the light will spread more, the inside of the box should also be white or use foil, this also helps a lot.....

cheers

That last photo is a keeper :) A suggestion would be to create a diffuser for a table lamp (with several layers of grease proof paper to soften the light) and place the SB800 on the opposite side, that way you can get a nicely balanced light set up. I find in the last photo that her right side (from the viewer's point of view) is a bit too dark and makes her lose her baby softness :) Just a suggestion.

Keep up the good work tho, 'cos practice makes perfect :D
