In love with my SB800 (and 50/1.4)
Went to a friend's 40th birthday party at the weekend. No decisive moments, but gave my newly acquired SB800 a workout. Makes a huge difference - especially no more redeye!. Liked this candid of a friend's daughter doing kara0ke (taken with 24-120 VR)
and this one taken using the 50/1.4 which is just a magic lens: 
Edit: Damn word sensor - altered spelling of that singing in public thing

Well that's the puzzle for me. I've heard heaps about how hard the thing is to master and how useless the manual is so I just went out and took the shots and it seemed to work OK. Maybe the hard part is getting it to do all the things you pay the extra $$ for over the SB600 (like commander mode). In any case I won't leave home without it. Peter

I used the (much maligned) diffusion dome and also had the wide diffision thingie inside folded over the head and then angled the head so it pointed at the roof opposite where the lights were if that makes sense. Guess this is bounce flash  Peter

How did you get the glowing effect on the second picture? Looks very nice Maybe you should start glamour photography
Used the Nik Color Efex Classical Soft Focus filter addin in Nikon Capture (although could also have used the PS CS version in PS CS) Peter

Peter - it is a great piece of equipment and you had it in one - great pics.
Don’t know if you noticed on saturday but I was using the SB800 with the 70-200 for the pics I shot - I find it invaluable. Chris

Thank you all for the comments. While the model in the second shot did help with the look of the image I'd have to give some credit to the SB800 and the 50mm/1.4 too in giving the nice glow (and maybe even the photog had a small role to play

yeah the 50mm 1.4 is a fantastic lens
women love staring down it's short but utterly charming barell.
