1. By navigating the images in your web-based gallery of choice, copy the link for your large image:
(e.g. http://jpeake.smugmug.com/photos/34390217-L.jpg)
2. Paste the link into your forum post
3. To the left of your link, type [url=
4. To the right of your link, type ][/url]
5. You should end up with a line that looks like this:
[url=http://jpeake.smugmug.com/photos/34390217-L.jpg][/url]
6. Next, copy the link for your thumbnail image from the same gallery
(e.g. http://jpeake.smugmug.com/photos/34390217-S.jpg)
7. In between the ] and the [ of your previous line, paste the new link to your smaller image, or type [img] and [/img] either side of it...
8. Highlight the link to the smaller image and click on the Img button at the top of the message window...
9. Preview your post to ensure you've achieved the desired result...
10. For any image the complete line in your post should resemble the following:
[url=large_link][img]small_link[/img][/url]

If you did all of the above correctly, then you should see:

Click on the small image to see a larger one...

Leek, I felt so sorry for you typing all this in each time that i made a little script for you:

1. Choose your large image, eg http://jpeake.smugmug.com/photos/34390217-L.jpg
2. Paste it into the Zoomomator
3. Press "Make URL"
4. Copy and paste the resulting PHPBB text back into the forum

I hope this helps! It only does SMUGMUG "-L" and "-S" links but if you regularly use another gallery or format, let me know and I can make it produce different links for different gallery URL formats.

you can also use http://www.imageshack.us which generates the codes for a number of different ways for you

<a href="http://img414.imageshack.us/my.php?image=imgp0022pwmedium8tm.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://img414.imageshack.us/img414/4940/imgp0022pwmedium8tm.th.jpg" border="0" /></a>

(I'll put a link here so people can find it easier than the old thread. :) )

In addition to thaddeus's Zoomomator you can use my Smugmug Link Generator to easily generate BBCode to embed Smugmug images.

Daniel

Tutorial please

Hi, would really like the 'how to' content of this thread added to the tutorial list along with 'How to Post' topic .. how do we get this done ?

As a newbie I am like a big sponge for information but realistically know I will need to refer to the instructons from time to time

Rgds DebT PS and yes I do need to take my camera instruction manual with me I figure it's better to look like a dumb blonde than take photos that confirm it

Deb - that's a good idea. I'll look into organising for both this and the other embed an image post to be linked that way.

Hi all,
I have recently started using FLickr to host some of my photos. They say in their T&C that they require a link to their site from the photo. Fair enough, but I can't seem to make it work.

They give sample code for html, but cutting and pasting that doesn't seem to work, and when I try the above method
[url=""][img][/img][/url]
using bits of the sample code, that just seems to link to the photo, not the web site.

Could some one in the know please explain to this Dummy how to do this. Preferably in words of one syllable or less

Greg,

Post a sample so we can see what's not working.

I just posted from flickr using these instructions, with some level of success. It strikes me that some of this code is redundant if it is displayed rather than translated, or am I just doin' it wrong?

The code I used for the first image is
Code: Select all
preg_replace($acronyms_match, $acronyms_repl, '[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/joeldevlin/3192290411/][img]http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3118/3192290411_3f4f589974.jpg[/img][/url]')

and the result looks like this

You don't need the
Code: Select all
preg_replace($acronyms_match, $acronyms_repl, '

at the start or the
Code: Select all
')

at the end.
i.e.
Code: Select all
[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/joeldevlin/3192290411/][img]http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3118/3192290411_3f4f589974.jpg[/img][/url]

is all you need.

This is the code supplied by Flickr
Code: Select all
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/29374556@N06/3186412695/" title="_GJK0401 by gregdarcy, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3322/3186412695_ba5bbd1a1d.jpg" width="500" height="335" alt="_GJK0401" /></a>

This is the photo as displayed by
Code: Select all
[img]http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3322/3186412695_ba5bbd1a1d.jpg[/img]

Image

This is the photo using the bbCode at the top of the thread. Hmm. This is different to what it was a few days ago. Did I highlight an issue with it?
Code: Select all
[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/29374556@N06/3186412695/][img]http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3322/3186412695_ba5bbd1a1d.jpg[/img][/url]
Image

And now it works :D
Thanks ATJ, Darxtorm
I realise now what I had done wrong. I had left out all the preg_replace stuff which I figured (correctly as it turns out!) was not needed, but put the url in quotes. Damn. :oops: Still; sorted now. All I need to do now is write a FLickr -> BBCode macro to simplify the translation.

Mr Darcy, I am a Newbie to Online forums and despite a look at this thread and earlier guides I cannot quite get the gist of imbedding urls of a picture.
I am using Picasa. Is that a photo sharing site that will work for this purpose?

When I have used the Picasa-offered "imbed image" or "Link to this photo" The whole Picasa page turns up for "MY photos".

I had a look at SmugMug and an explanation for photo sharing sites on Wikipedia. This led me to conclude that Picasa should be OK. Perhaps I am wrong.

All a bit daunting...
