G'day all,
Went up to the Grampians for a few days with a bunch of people for a photoshop workshop, was great fun and learnt heaps... Phew been away a bit, strewth the threads!

Anyway, haven't really done much PP, need to work on 'em to bring out their features etc but just wanted to post and share

love the Grampians...

Last time I was there the silverband falls were dry and Bloody cars running wide on the way down nearly saw me and my bike get a much closer view of the bush land and the drop off the side of mountains!

But some lovely shots and with all your new photoshop skills... cant wait to see more!

Andrew nice shots mate, i have been there many a times when i was driving coashes and mainly with school chidren. I walked up to that bloody lookout in #1 and swore i would never do it again as been there done that and didn't like it.LOL So from that time i booked the back seat of the coach and took a pillow and had 40 winks.

A lot of walking that i was not use too but yeh it is very pretty place and some of my Ulyssian motorbike friends are having camp there this weekend, i am too busy but yeh you pics are great so far and look forward to seeing some more and as long as you had fun and learn't something is good.

Number 2. Love that whirlpool.

The second shot is my favourite but they're all lovely. Also love the whirlpool. Did you see Tom Putt got a highly commended for his Ancient snow gum in the Wildlife Photographer of the Year? Bet you guys had a great time!

Hi Mudder. Shots 2, 3 and 5 are absolutely superb. I'm a sucker for a well composed and insteresting image and these really captivate me because they are just so good.

Great shots (like the swirl effect in #2, but #3 is my fave), but I'm a little puzzled. If it was a photoshop workshop why haven't these had any PP to bring out their life and colour.

Some beuatiful shots here mudder, will look very good with a little PP. This is one place that is on our list to visit during our 12 month trek next year.

Nice shots, that 2nd shot of MacKenzie Falls is as good as any composition I have seen. Did you happen to catch a sunset on Tapian Wall (shot of all the tripods) When the right sun hits it is over the top.

Stubbsy, I did some PP, just real quick and rough not spending much time on it just so I could post, I was buggered after the big days and just wanted to post something before ni ni... Was just a quick levels, maybe a bit of sat or a grad in the sky, then sharpen and re-size etc...

Nicole, yep Tom was quite chuffed about the distinction etc for the snow gum shot, I remember when he took it and I thought wow, love it... He'll be very pleased to know it was noticed His off-sider Glen has won the Victorian landscape photog of the year two years running now, 2004 and 2005

Shane, the sunset over those cliffs was stunning but we were with a group of 13 people and needed to get back to the "classroom" at a reasonable time to work on the images we'd captured, so missed the best part Have some sunset stuff yet to play with... Have a sweep to play with in stitching etc, gotta get off my bum and do it though

G'day mate,

All landscape stuff is manual exposure (aperture pri for animal stuff), shots 1-3 are:

#1 = F11, 1/250sec, ISO200, 14mm
#2 = F16, 8 sec's, ISO200, 15mm (2 shots blended, lower exposure shot same setting just shorter exposure time (.7 stops so about 5-6 seconds?))
#3 = F16, 20 secs's, ISO200, 12mm (2 shots blended, lower exposure shot same setting just shorter exposure time (.7 stops so about 13-14 seconds?))

All using that magic 12-24 Nikkor and a circ pol to reduce reflection, deepen under water detail and increase shutter times for the creamy water, didn't use an ND (but probably only because I didn't have one in 77mm!). I also try not to go above about F16 to keep stuff sharp.

The blending only takes a few seconds and I use it a lot on waterfall or high dynamic range stuff to avoid bringing up shadow detail and dragging the noise up with it Just need to keep the exposure diff to about a stop maximum.

EDIT: Oooops, forgot to say that I don't have a handle on hyperfocal focussing in the field, so I just use the slack-arse method and focus about 1/3rd of the distance of the subject(s) into the frame, then turn off auto-focus and re-compose, seems to work out OK.
