This looks way overexposed to me. Not sure that I like it, but I'd like to see a similar image that was not as high key.

For soft effects, I'd probably use the old pantyhose or vaseline techniques.

Actually I should not have put the first pic on as it detracts from the effect of the lower pic. This is a special action in CS that takes out detail and allows accentuation of certain parts of the image in this case the eyes and the lips. It is only applicable to portraits.
