I'm always bragging about Squamish, here it is.

I'm a little overwhelmed still by photoshop. I probably spent a good 4 hours fixing these up little bits here and there. Mostly it was getting the dark areas I wanted lighter, while keeping all the light areas the same, then clone stamping all of my mistakes. I'd love for anyone to give me some photoshop suggestions. More on the way but this is taking some time. Thoughts, please, let me have em (I have thick skin)

These were all taken in Squamish BC Canada. A number of movies have been filmed here recently, including Insomnia (Al Pacino, Robin Williams, good flick) and Walking Tall (The Rock) I haven't seen it.

THanks for the offer Raydar, I'll definitly take you up on it...only I'm so new I don't even know the questions to ask. I'll think of them along the way and pose them to you. My problem last night was getting the selection area accurate-it was so tedious!

Hi Dooda

Yes, I watched Insomnia and thought at the time what a great place - and your photos have carried on with the atmos of the movie - hope the sun shines some time. . .

Do you think that they are a tad dark? Unfortunatly my camera was underexposing by .7 and they were taken from a moving car so I had to do a lot of brightening in PS.

Tricky question because we don’t know what the day was like! What do you think?

What PS are you using 7 or CS? If CS a quick and dirty method is to use the photo filter under adjustments. Then there are curves, layers etc. I personally have been using PS since it first came out and every single day is a new learning curve - one thing to remember is make a duplicate of the file and keep the original safe. Work the guts out of the duplicate and you will soon see what can be done.

I know this sounds a bit iffy but, like photography, you learn more by constantly playing. . .

Cheers

All of my photos go into iphoto, then I just import it into CS and whack away. I always leave the copy from iphoto alone, and abuse the one in photo shop senseless.

How does someone go about selecting something complicated like a strip of trees down the middle that is completely underexposed? The wand wanted to include pieces of the clouds and rock etc. I couldn't get it to focus completly on the trees themselves. Same with Garibaldi...

One tool that is available to make this task a lot easier in my opinion is the quick mask mode.
Look this up in the help menu & have a go at it.
One other thing that helps is to feather the selection a little after you have finished, makes the cutout look more natural.

Email any time mate, no worries

& get your self a Wacom tablet, this turns PS into a even more injoyable tool to use.
