These are superb. Not quite as great as your comp entry, but only by a whisker. What really makes thse work so well is that golden glow you've captured in the foreground rocks

Beautiful images LD
I think I would have liked them in Landscape even though this makes them different.
Keep catching those worms mate.

Nice shots Dingo. Tell me, what's your secret to getting up early? I try but just keep hitting the snooze button!
I like the colours in the clouds in all of these shots.

I'm totally wrapped, esp by the second shot. The way the sun-lit bulges in the clouds mirror the rocks in the foregound. I guess I'm gonna sell my camera...
Cheers

Paul, absolutely beautiful. Ialso liked your comp entry a lot, but thought it didn't show as much movement as others. These images are a reward within themselves.

yeah sensational photos mate, how you got such dynamic range even with such a bright sun has got me a bit stumped ... care to elaborate? Shadows dont look terribly lifted either, nice clean image all up.
I take it you had an ND of some variety onboard? (maybe an overall ND, plus a grad ?)
Any chance we can hear your technique, and/or see some high res copies?

Thanks agian everyone for the kind comments
Darb, no secret recipe, all technique compadre'

All you ahve to do is live on the east coast, wake very early in the morning and "chase" the light. I did use a ND grad for the sky to hold back some light but the clouds were ominous that morning anyway. It was raining just 5 minutes down the road before arriving with lots of lightning!

Darb, ND grad of various strengthes and ND filters are the key to these sort of photos. Plus being getting up very early before there is any light and venturing to your destination. Also waiting until dusk is somethimes good.
Observing the weather and trying to predict what it's going to do is sometimes a good technique. Sometimes you can feel that there is a storm is in the air, the clouds are there, but the sun is still trying to punch through - these are the times you should be heading out and attempting some landscape shots. They usually produce nice interesting sunsets.

Hi Paul,
I'm also amazed by the photos you've taken.
Wowww ...
I think I have picked up a little essential bit of information you gave:
"It was raining just 5 minutes down the road before arriving ..."
I guess this explaines how the rocks in the centre of the image are reflecting the sun so well ? (they are wet ?...)
Very cool photos,
CD

Christian, and if it hasn't been raining and you want wet rocks there is some trusty tools for landscape photographers to take:
1. Watering Can
2. A Rake (to rake the sand!)
3. Powerful torch or vehicle headlights can be used to illuminate foreground landscape
Probably a lot more but that's a few that I've learnt so far.

Thanks Kipper,
I have all of the above
Thanks for sharing your advice
I really appreciate your input.
If I would only always think of these things
Cheers,
CD

Again everyone thanks for the comments!
The second shot interestingly enough when I first viewed on the monitor I didn't like it, thought too blown out in the central area. I decided to go ahead and print it out A4 and pinned up at my desk at work. The more I looked at it it the more I liked the water as it had a look of being frozen solid in some areas as in ice.
The first shot was what I also had a lesser attraction to but general public opinions prefers this one 10 to 1 over any of the others.

third one is my pick just as the sun is coming up and showing all its colours thoughout the clouds
