G'day all,
Well... Had my first play with the 80-400VR (thank you Birddog! I owe you a beer) :-)

Went mad and filled >1G card in a few hours until work called when something broke and I had to go home :-(

Anyway, I'm a happy little vegemite with the new toy... Today was so overcast that everything was almost dull and dark with corresponding long shutter times but with this baby, no sweat!

Only just uploaded a few jpegs to pixspot, have a sticky see what you think... All with the 80-400 and as usual had trouble getting small jepgs without stuffing up the image... Gotta get a handle on that...

Cheers,
Mudder PS. Wasn't sure whether I should post this here or in the Equipment Review part...

Which zoo are you at?

Looks like you were at Melbourne Zoo. Gotta love those orangs. Pics look really good. I assume they were all handheld? No stopping you now!

Wow!

I like the young orang photo but they are all sharp and very clear

Thanks for sharing Matt

G'day,
Yep, Melbourne Zoo... It's amazing what you can do with zoom...

Yep, all hend-held, and with my old shaky hands that's saying something!

While watching the lion (after they eventually woke-up, doh... What a life...) he was watching the African wild dogs on the other side of the cyclone fence between them (for those that don't know Melbourne Zoo, yep you read that right, they have the Lions opposite and sight of, the African wild dogs...) he suddenly charged over to the fence snarling and growling as though he was going to attack the dogs, wow it sounded awesome just under your feet with the dogs suddenly yelping as they ran! The walk-way being about 12-15' above ground... Damn, couldn't get a shot of it though...

Ahhh, this is fun... And with that lens on, well... It comes back to that size thing doesn't it? No hood though... That's like being punk... ;-)

Cheers,
Mudder
