Thanks guys.

It is the Tamron 70-300 macro xerubus. I lust a 60 or 105 Nikon micro, but it is possible to get decent results with the Tamron if I make an effort. Someone else here, can't remember who, did some good macro stuff with it and the SB800 just the other day,

I need to get my PP skills honed too - this looked lighter in PS CS (as did my damn Tree in the comp). Obviously, I am doing something wrong, need to get that nailed down

very nice! I always like insect macros but spiders are ontop of that food chain :mrgreen:

Me too, my photo came out a little on the dark side as well compared to PS CS. I think it hurt as the bottom of my tree is simply too dark.

THis is a great picture though. Man (s)he's ugly. I wonder if he/she realizes it?

Probably not dooda, in my experience , spiders are lacking in self awareness.

What is going on with PS CS and the darkness/lightness issue? I am puzzled. But the truth must be found!

what distance where you from your subjects?
tripod?

Thanks Photodude.

I was at around the minimum focussing distance for 300mm in macro, maybe three or four feet or thereabouts (120cm ish). Not really sure.

No tripod, hand held with the SB-800 and 1/500 shutter speed I think.

3-4 feet is as close as I'd like to get to that thing. Usually I restrict distance to spiders like that to a broom handle length! Good shot though.
