Iv'e set myself up some lights and are now in the testing stage.
Taken with the 50mm 1.8 and the SB800 remotely mounted on a pod and also a hot light side lighting the wire.
Im up for any advice as this is my first real try with this type of set up.

Jethro, as an initial shot I think this is outstanding. If I were to constructively criticise it I think the only thing I could suggest is not having the flash so direct on the centre of the reel, seems a TAD too hot where they cross over. That said though, for a first go it's an excellent image and I think the frame suits it well. Good on you!

I agree with Geoff, great shot for 'test' shot, looks like you'll have plenty of fun with your setup (I certainly enjoyed a more planned and purposeful approach when I did my studio jelly-shots, then my usual hap-hazard photography style.

Jethro - the one thing to keep in mind when shooting this kind of pic is to shoot and then look at the result. If you are happy with the shot then that is all that matters.

Personally, I like what you have done. :)
