I hate dust and dust bunnies :( Was a pretty dusty day but awesome race event yesterday. Mostly shot with kit lens and a few with 20mm - in no particular order.

What a champion! This kid is 7 years old and he rode the entire course on a BMX bike. Not even a grown up could do that.

Piro, these pics are great mate, looks like a good day there and good to see you have used a flash. I would be happy with these and well these riders are game as Ned Kelly i think and sure there would be some tumbles. Well done.

Some great shot Wayne. I'm impressed by the kid on the BMX, was this mostly a downhill race ?

Also where the guys racing that you caught "showing off" in midair ? I don't see the benefit in a race or doing anything fancy that would cause the rider to come unstuck on the landing..

Thanks for the comments guys :)

BBJ, Saturday some kid knocked himself out and another bloke snapped his bike in half. Yesterday just as I turned up, a kid fell after a jump and broke his wrist. My friend kept smacking his head into trees :D How's that for a few tumbles :)

Craig, the race was purely downhill with a few small uphill climbs out of a gully. Some of these shots were during practice while some were during the race run. You know how it is with testosterone - "Ooh ooh! Camera! Must pull stunt in air!" :)

Wendell, had to use the flash 'cos metering was a bitch in the afternoon sun. I was too lazy to remove the CPl from the kit lens, but worked out well in the end :)

cpl slows down the speed of your lens at maybe 2 stops
but looks like little blur in your images well done

Hi,

Great shots Wayne. We both approached the so event differently with our relative styles. This is one aspect that makes photography great.

I was also motivated by Waynes post to attend but could only make it on the Sat due to a model shoot Sunday. Being a XC and Road Rider myself these DH guys to me are hard core. They ride hard and get plenty of air time. Not sure why they wear blood buckets (helmets) as their is not much to keep in if they fall - only joking guys.

Here are my best shots from the day and as you can see one of the shots was taken by a friend I loaned one of my camera's too. Was a great day out despite the heat and the dust. All the pics can be seen at http://www.hudcomm.com and follow the link on the front page.

Nice timing and colour saturation. Images are sharp considering the type of use with CPL. #2 and 3 are my picks
cheers
