The new SB-800

Members and lurkers, I am pleased to announce something that my NDA doesn't cover... the new model of the SB-800...

Redesigned from the ground-up, the SB-800WP is exactly the same as its brother, the SB-800, except that it has 4 layers of very very strong plexiglass protecting it from any random bumps or knocks it might receive.

As a result, it makes it very difficult to aim the flash in any direction but front on...

But hey, when you've got as much protection as you have here, does having control of the flash really matter?

Furthermore, there are weak points at the holes where you won't be able to get your fingers into, which is why Nikon have thought of everything for the SB-800WP by providing the SB-800WP Stick!

Yes, the SB-800WP Stick has been electroplated for your safety so that no bump or knock will ruin any of its poking or prodding ability.

Note: It appears that Nikon do not advocate the use of any other poking or prodding tool you may find that can fit through the SB-800WP's holes and say that the use of any other tool not certified as the SB-800WP Stick -- whether it be a toothpick, a needle, a pin, or anything else not officially recognised by Nikon as the tool for use with the SB-800WP -- will indeed void the warranty.

bloody hell.

I just took possession of my first ever real flash - a near new SB 800 courtesy of Kris...and now this baby comes on the market.

guess I'll just have to trash it, claim on warranty and get this latest indestructible version.

nnnsic is it really plexiglass or some form of super Ansell latex for all over protection?

I'm sure it will sell well..good work

They left the WP of the badge ? Is this a demon version you got your hands on Leigh ?

Also what does WP stand for 'Warranty Protection' ?

It's not so much a new model, Craig, but rather a variant.

Like, you know how you can get variant models of computers or parts where the name is printed the same way on the product number yet the model number is different?

Same sort of thing.

Arh, I get it. Nikon is being cheap and using the same plant to manufacture them both. Can you get different colours ? Like Ipods ?

Not quite.

From what I understand, it will come in different colours, but only to identify the different variants where the flash points in a different direction.

So you can buy the regular blue clear one that points forward, the green clear one that points up, the red clear one that points left at an angle of some sort, or something like that.

It'll end up as a costly exercise, but I imagine it'll prove useful for some people.

It looks like nikon went cheap and just added the plastic wrap filter in photoshop
Practically ingenious but aesthetically horrible, put that latex thing on and be instantly loved by men and feared by women.

Think of it as a condom for those of us who love to flash.
