Hi i'm new here, just made a coffee turned out ok, so i thought I share a pic of it. It's not the best shot but any thoughts on better composition would be greatly appreciated.

Now that is one classy looking cup of coffee. I hope it tasted as good as it looks :)

Welcome to the forum.

Hi Micka :D ,
I'm also new here, but welcome. It's a great place to see some amazing photos and learn a whole lot. The coffee looks great, may have to go and grab one!

But shouldn't your forum name be Mocha?

Welcome aboard, nice image and nice subject!!!

I just had two, which is why I am wide awake at 23:05.

Still they tasted good, and didn't look nearly as good as yours!

Thanks everyone. It's always good to find more people who appreciate coffee.

Although you won't be able to post to this thread as yet, I'm sure you'll find it of interest.

Gary that points to the .com site? Is that right?

It doesn't matter for most users; they're interchangeable. I just prefer to keep the heavier posters (like the person of the first party in this message) on the .com site in order to keep the memory usage on the .net site manageable.

A little off topic, but how is the quasi-loading balancing working Gary ? Is it having the desired affect, or near enough ?

Near enough, Craig.

I think that (and I'm talking off the top of my head here, not that that's a new experience) we've only had about two days in the last month or more where we overran the old limit, so it's all good.

Thanks, that's a great thread. On a side note, as I'm not able to post there, I use a Rancilio Silvia machine, and a Nemox Luxe grinder.

I've tried the fancy patterns, but my skills are not nearly up to that level yet! ;)

Of course, I'm just happy that my humble $90 espresso machine (95% plastic, 5% imagination ;) ) is able to pump out a halfway-decent cuppa at all!

Nice shot of the cup too, BTW... The only thing I'd change is to leave a bit more space on the left side.. But that is a judgement call really!

Nice rosetta Micka, did you pour that yourself? I can never get so many leaves on mine, I can't seem to get the right amount of microfoam, the leaves turn out too fat?

I too use the Silvia + Rocky grinder.

P.S. Any mods reading this, I also can't post to the thread Gary linked to, but I think I have enough posts to qualify, anyone care to grant me access? Ta.

That's one I poured. It does take a bit of practice to get decent at it, I think I have about a 1 in 3 strike rate of good latte art at the moment.

Here's another I prepared earlier....

(on a side note, this was one of the first pics I shot with my D70s)

Coffee aside, I actually thought the composition of the photo was pretty darn good. Nice and tight, obeys the rule of thirds and even though the cup and saucer are pushed over to the left, the actual point of interest, the pattern in the crema, is almost centred. Nice diagonal shooting angle too.

I had to make the odd coffee in the bar I worked in once. I tell you , I was flat out trying to produce a decent bit of froth for the cuppacinos, let alone patterns of trees and hearts.
