Nikkor 50mm f/1.4 strange bokeh

I met up with fellow Nikonian Gunther from Germany, since we were both travellers visiting NYC. He loaned me his 50 f/1.4 - I got a pic of him with the lens wide open in very dark light.

What's with the bokeh? They're very clearly heptagonal shaped, corresponding to the aperture blades?! I'm not exactly a fan of it, as I'm a bokeh freak - but it certainly leaves a lasting impression of this lens...

I see what you mean, but personally I wouldn't worry. It's in the background and not a part of the subject. The eye is not drawn to the lights in the background, but to the portrait of Gunther(?)

I feel that if the background is out of focus it almost becomes irrelevant and causes the viewer to look at the subject instead.
