Here are a couple I took at the Melb Zoo yesterday, using my new Sigma 50-500. I really love this lens. I cannot tell any difference in the sharpeness & resolution at any of the f stops. I would like to thank very much the members that suggested using the AE/AE lock button to focus. Since I have started using this button, my ratio of OOF shots has dropped remarkably.
Both these shots were spot metered, using manual mode, and the exposure adjusted -1/3 EV. The leaves shot is probably a bit ordinary.
Please tell me what you think, and how these can be improved. BTW, IF you have missed me, I havent been around lately because I have not been to well. On the mend now though.

i actually prefer the second shot because of the colours, and it is so damn sharp!

looks damn sharp.. i was looking at a 50-500 a while ago, went for the 70-200 instead

Nice shots with the Bigma!

I like your first shot of the bird but to my eye it is a tad flat..

I'm also happy that you have put this image taken with the 50-500 as it is on my lens lust list...

Is it ok if I have a play with the bird image..

Wow! #1 was taken at 500mm, and it is so sharp... Now I'm very interested in this lens.

The Big Ma shines in your hands. Both images are great.

Thanks for all the replies. Stephen, I dont mind if you want to play with the 1st image. Tim, I used a monopod. I dont like to use a tripod at the Zoo, epecially on Tuesdays, which seems to be grades 1 & 2 day .
I think that is a really great lens. The only shortcoming is that it is f6.3 at full zoom, so it can only really be used on fairly bright days, which we do get a lot of in OZ (even Melb ) It compliments the Sigma 18-50 f2.8 nicely. This is another sharp lens.

I recommend both lenses highly.

Meicw, I think you and the lens create a very nice song together and after having a play with the image I'm really impressed..
The lens at 500mm has picked up good detail..

Very nice meicw but the shots seem quite noisy - were you using a high iso?

Stephen, Thanks for the adjusted iamge. You have brought out details that I didn't realise were there. If I may ask, what did you do?
Manta, to keep the shutter speeds up, I usually shoot at 400 or 800 at the Zoo.
