Night sky..Took few pics of the Southern Cross & Milky Way tonight.
Nikon 50mm f1.8D, ISO800, 20 secs at f2. Two pics joined in PS CS. Came out OK I reckon... Cheers.
That looks excellent flyer. Are you in a suburban area with the usual ambient light or did you go to somewhere with less light pollution?

Thanks Greg.
Taken from my backyard in suburban Newcastle with the usual ambient light for this area. Much darker skys here then in Big Smoke...
I see from the second posting Flyer that the join has gone - great shot and great PS (2nd).
I have seen, only twice in my life, an amazing sky. 4am in Fiji on the way to the resort from the airport and in 1979 when I was searching for Lasseters Reef out in WA. On that night, and subsequent nights, it was stars from horizon to horizon a most amazing sight. Plus I saw a few of those fireball thingys (forgotten their names) racing across the ground. Anyway, I digress, your shot is fab for a suburban area. Chris Chris

Guys
Newcastle is great, period. Vineyards, beaches, fishing, sailing and the delights of Sydney all at most 2.5 hours travel away. Just don't let any of those Sydney people know or they'll want to live here Edit: Sorry Flyer - forgot to comment on the pic - Excellent - especially the PS cleanup you've done. Guess I need to go have a look at the sky from my backyard. Peter

Stubbsy, I must say I am envious of you and Flyer. I was bushwalking near Shrouded Gods Mountain (near Milton) a few weekends ago and the sky looked similar. You buggers walk into your backyard to get this? I saw more sattelites in one hour of watching that sky than in the whole year before
Charming place - not as commercial and frenetic as other parts of "the bay" and a nice protected beach. Good choice. Peter

That's really nice Flyer, you've certainly managed to draw a lot of stars out of the background in that second shot. There's just so many of the things... well done..
Steve.
