Tall ships

Took some pics of the James Craig and Svanen as they entered Newcastle harbour (link to gallery is here). I have a problem with the pic below and would appreciate comments. Can't decide if I should crop out the cathedral in the top left so you just see the ship. Plus, if I keep the cathedral I can't work out how to make it show better (image has had USM and curve alterations to try and fix)

Oh also refer my link HERE if you want to sail on one of theses ships in March (costs ~$200)

TIA

I like the Cathedral in the shot...

Not sure how to make it stand out more though, a more experienced Photoshoper needs to assist you here.

Stubbsy

Try this in PS if you have it:

Colour Balance - Midtones - +51 +23 -22

Then:

Selective Colour - Black +54%

Chris

This may help

Hi Stubbsy, I diddled with your image a little by masking & selecting the colour ranges in the entire hillside of buildings behind and loweering brightness and adding a smidge of contrast to each patch. I also used unsharp mask on the cathederal block to give the sky/roof interface a crisper intersect. I hope the altered image downloads ok.

Cheers - lovely pic, composition is fine

ps. hope you don't mind me re-working your stuff.

Stubbsy, I prefer your shots in your album without distracting backgrounds so much more. I also prefer the composition of the other shots, So based on that I wouldn't spend any time pp, this shot would be the one which got away. They cant all be winners and the others are in my opinion.

To post an image in a reply,

press IMG button just above reply box on right,

insert url (or address) for image
(this is what a url looks like http://www.pixspot.com/albums/userpics/ ... 20Park.jpg )

press IMG again and you have done it

Hope that makes sense, ask if it doesn't

OK I get it (I think!) reply text and functions I get - a URL is what I need to get myself. Sorry Stubbsy - no image forthcoming - I checked my late night's efforts and they were not all good after all - at least that's my excuse, and I'm sticking to it! Next time I shall tread more carefully. Sorry for the mucking around.

Cheers.

Thanks for your advice Glen. On reflection I think you're right on the money. I'm trying too hard to get the pic I wanted from a shot that is ordinary. Better to spend my time on getting the good pic "in the camera"
