Looking out my front door tonight

Hi All, well was a hot day here and we have fires in the upper part of the state which is not good, anyhow went out to see how cool it was outside and stepped out my front foor and looked at the sky and well here is a pic of what i seen, looked nice and did 1 in black and white for fun.
See what you think but looked like Heaven.

Oh forgot i think some of the sunrays are made more rich from the smoke from the fires north of Adelaide moving down south east.

BBJ - without sounding condescending your pics have improved out of sight since you joined this forum (I think there is a pun in there somewhere).
You are obviously getting to know your D70 and lens and posting great pics like this one (2) - keep it up mate

Does anyone ever worry about pointing straight at the sun? Is it possible to damage the sensor?
Nice photos by the way, could come very handy in PP landscapes with bland skies.

Thanks Chris, I got broad shoulders mate, actually i took a few pic and when i looked at them on here i seen a few spots, oh no dust bunnies so took lens of and gave it a blow with the rocket. took a few test shots and and couple at some white paper with the flash and seems to have gone.
I am learning.

Excellent shot. I really prefer the color shot, the B&W makes it look like night.
PhilipB, just make sure your apeture is small (higher #) if looking directly at the sun. I would also shoot A
mode so the shutter won't stay open too long.

Excellent shot, shame about what caused the effect but great image nontheless.
Like the colour one best...the black and white looks a bit cranky.

Really like the ambience of the color shot... Almost spritual...
Hope all is OK re: the fires and the losses are minimal... Bush fires are very scary things... I hope at least the cause is a natural one, not man induced...

Thanks All, The shot was not really planned as the first shots i took showed up some spots so got the blower out to see if they would move. I took about 10 shots at different times so maybe i will have another look at some and see what i can come up with. different from taking pics of motorbikes but i like to try everything.
The fires are still going up north and i think they are calling it Black Tuesday, sad that lives have been lost, most of them children. As a firefighter for near 20 years with the country fire service i know what it's like to fighting them as i did in Ash Wednesday. But a lot cooler today and not so windy might help them slow it down.
