first is HMAS Castlemaine which i have taken pics of in just about all light conditions and she always looks great !

second is a large ocean going tug that works in Bass strait

like john said: something peaceful about the first shot.

compostionally also,

in the second shot I find the buildings in the background to be distracting.

I like the first shot a lot though. well done.

#1 I really like your composition here. From the flat water to the masts behinds and city skyline in the misty haze. It's a beauty, great detail.

#2 I didn't realise that there were tugs this size (sheltered workshop I live in). That sucker is huge. Sure the buildings are a little distracting, but I'm still amazed by the size of that tug. Do you know what they use them for?

#1 is my pick here Nikon Boy. A slight contradiction in terms - naval warship and peaceful :) but i agree ther'e a sense of tranquility about this image

I quite like the first one too. I like the way the buildings in the distance help to create perspective, but the mist/fog softens their appearance to prevent them from detracting from the subject.
Nicely captured.

The first one seems strangely peaceful... Not sure why, whether it's the misty weather, not sure...

It's a great place to wander around though aint it?
