Geeez what's the go, the other forum is just as interesting but has less of a user base, so apologies if you see this twice, some critique would be great. I think I made the mistake of have too much crap in the background again, but then it was a spontaneous portrait

Slight crop of background that detracted from the focus and setting the black point so the hat was black as it should be. Touch of USM.

Hash, my first thought is "nice teeth"
But I am not sure that is what you were looking for! Nice idea, and well done for a quick snap.

My first thought was to get the hat since it was race day and fascinators were the order of the day, in which case I should have framed it with the whole hat rather than just the brim.

If I actually knew the person better rather than just being some girl I met 10 min earlier, I should have gone for the focus on the gorgeous smile and eyes behind the brim, But hey what can you do?

How do people distract passerbys who are really not interested in getting their photo taken or posing for one? I usually get concerned looks when I'm using the 18-70mm at it's widest coz every one thinks I'm doing a breast shot, so I tell them it's a wide angle lens and I'm not interested in their boobs, which usually gets a laugh.

Hash, I like the concept of the shot. I think, as you said, the shot would have been better showing more of the hat. The bright section top left is also a distraction.
So are you going to show us the uncropped version.....

Hehe, I wish , I'm afraid the only things to make it in the bottom of the frame were a couple of her fingers. Just tightened up the crop to lose some of the edges and the finger bits at the bottom.

Any ideas on how to lower that bright section in the top left with PP? Just use the burn tool?
