A few more snowboarding shots. These are from part of the NSW junior comp off Big Air at Perisher last weekend.

All taken with 28-200 G (3.5 - 5.6) on D70

Great action shots Shakey. The kids would love them too. #2 is a beauty. Cheers, Mick.

Hi,

I'm a fan of #3. The angle is good - a sense on "How High? " plus it eliminates the more cluttered backgrounds. There is a little motion blur on the tail of the board which I also thinks adds to this action shot.

Wish I was there.....

Nice photos Shakey. Great colour and movement.

I was wondering why you didn't open the lens up to about 5.6 so the skiers stand out a bit more from the background? It would also allowed a higher shutter speed to freeze the action.

I was playing around with different settings to see what I could do. It was in my mind that the 28-200G at its longest end and widest aperture may be too soft, so that's why I closed it down a little. But I agree that a greater separation of the subject from the background would be better.

I'm fairly happy with the shutter speeds. I like a bit of motion blurr as long as some part of the main subject is sharp. Thats what I was looking for in shot #3. This is 1/200 at 200 mm on d70 sensor size.

I love action photography but there's lots to learn :) :) :)
