My friends are getting married in December and I was asked to shoot their wedding. I took the opportunity to do a pre-wedding shoot.

It was their first time having a photo shoot, my first time doing a engagement / pre-wedding shoot. I was very happy with the results, as were they.

The img tags need to be fixed, but the gallery looks good. Some nicely posed and taken shots, will they be used at the wedding at all ?

I've heard it popular now to have the pre wedding shots displayed at the reception.

 BTW I like the concept of cards on the milk crates was that your concept of theirs ? I also like the walking in the field shots like this one.

This was my idea - they love playing poker and I wanted to do something that was personal to them... some sort of theme. I brought a deck of cards with me and happened to find some milk crates onsite and got them to have a mini game.

Awesome stuff mate. The last one is a corker with the sun rays breaking through the clouds.

Maybe burn away the graffiti in the bkg of the first one.

The third one really grabs me Awesome work

Holy crap, there are great images Jonothan! #2 has a really youthful feel to it, lovely! Did you have to trespass for #3?

One of the joys of living rural, trains are about 1 hour apart, and there are no fences etc... you have to cross the tracks to get to the other side of the line, only a boom gate stops you and beeps when a train is approaching.

Some great images there. I love the way you have made them feel at ease and have been able to capture the candid nature of their appreciation of each other. Exposures are great and I think the way you have shot into the sun and worked with silhouettes is worth special mention.

Only thing to watch at the wedding - after looking through the gallery you did, there are lots and lots of kissing shots. It is an obvious pose for those who love each other, and thus it can easily be overdone ..... (disclamer: Just MHO and perhaps they couldn't help themselves!)

there are lots and lots of kissing shots. It is an obvious pose for those who love each other, and thus it can easily be overdone

Interestingly, they were quite shy to kiss infront of the camera... they are not publicly affectionate people - I thought Id have to really work for images that beared any emotion, but they seemed to relax the longer we went on.

I shan't be asking them to kiss so much on the wedding day! by the end of it, they were going - 'I bet he's going to ask us to kiss now'. I guess when you dont have any other poses in your repoiture you run out of suggestions... for a couple thats not normally 'couple-ly' in public

Out of interest, how long did this shoot take?

It took around 2 hours, longer than I would like to take with others... our first time and we were having fun, and I wanted to use a few locations so we kept shooting. I had around 370 RAW files, and narrowing it down to around the 80 something I gave them 6x4's of was hard!

I shot simply - 30d + EFs 60/2.8 + reflector where needed.

We shot at an old racecourse, railway station, old arts centre and finally in a big field - all shot local in Menangle.

They were blown away with the results and it greatly encouraged me that I can do this type of thing.
