There were lots of nice butterflies in Borneo. In some places they were everywhere and I was able to get up close with my 60mm macro. Sometimes I got lucky and they didn't fly off. This one I took at Poring Hot Springs.

I dunno, the background's a bit out of focus... :D

Nothing quite as rewarding as getting a great shot of a difficult subject. Almost makes up for the frustration. Almost.

I recently saw a doco on TV about a nature photographer from Africa, and the way he and his partner worked was to capture the animals, recreate the animals natural environment on a set in their studio in a controllable environmental and lighting situation.

Perfect shoots would take minutes to days to create, rather than waiting for dumb luck(ie months !)and sleeping in a hide , freezing, sweating, getting rained on...

Alot of these shots end up in National geographic and no-ones the wiser.

Really interesting doco. Sorry i cant remember the guys name, but they were saying he was famous all over africa, as a animal handler, guide,interpreter....

That would have been interesting. Hopefully he doesn't make his countrymen cringe like a certain animal handler does for us...

Nice catch Nicole, really detailed... Can even see the little "end bit thingies" on the antennea... Gee, I obviously know a lot about the anatomy of a butterfly when using these technical terms huh...

Cheers,
Mudder
