Light does get blue shifted as you approach warp speed... 60kmh through the tunnel.
Need to redo this shot this week with a much cleaner windscreen soften the suspension slightly for that silky smooth effect. I will get rid of the dash reflection as well but happy with this proof of concept effort..

very well done - I've tried a similar shot a few times, but it's really hard to keep the camera still with the car moving. Looks like it must be a fairly smooth road ;)

Sheepie, I mounted the camera to the tri-pod and had it sitting in the passenger area. Two of the legs on the floor, the third on the seat. The road is smooth but even so there are a few bumps. so soften the suspension I shall do for the next shot!!

Nice surrealist shot! I especially love the colours and ray of light.

Oh wow, I've gotta try this, what an amazing perspective!!!!

Thanks for sharing your tripod set up, I thought I might need to have a special car bracket for this kind of thing...

Now this is going to cost me a few toll trips isnt it... how much does it cost to do 10-20 laps through Melbourne's Burnley Tunnel???

I like your thinking BigV - the scientist in me wants to try this out for myself!

I do, however, have a question for you - Would we see a shift if you strap a torch to your head as you ride the skateboard down Montefiore Hill at the Adelaide night meet this Friday? :P

Nat, you would see red shift because I will be moving away from you at a great rate!!! Now that will be ok for the canon cameras but will the nikons be able to record it?

I guess we'll have to wait until Friday to find out!!

 The next question is whether we could calculate your boarding speed from the size of the shift we observe

Love the shot, the surrealism is fantastic. Do you really want to advertise driving at warp speed in that make and model car ;)

I guess we could if we calibrated for a known speed first.Lets see what we can send down first!!! Brett, 60 kmh is 30 kmh slower than the tunnel speed and 177kmh less than the top speed of this baby... but that would take a trip to northern territory or a closed track.
