playing around a bit with lab colour, and i ended up with this.

great shot Nathan, the nice blue sky with the dead trees work really well together.

Was this taken at the same spot of the photo for your avatar?

this is the perfect candidate for a B&W

I quickly opened it in Photoshop
and opened a channel mixer adjustment layer and selected Monochrome then dropped the red down to 40%
then boosted the contrast to +5 in a brightness/contrast adjustment layer.

this showed the original file could make a brilliant moody B&W

give it a try.... I think you will like

thanks radar, yeh same spot as the avatar, lake eildon, was just going through some of the pics from the start of the year to see which ones i could make better


thanks for the tip firsty! i definately like it in black and white, but i dont think i followed your technique right so i just did my normal conversion, please feel free to show me your take on it.

haha its pretty dark! gives it a really spooky feel though! i just think it is a tad too dark.
