Good evening all,

As some of you know I shot a wedding a couple of weeks ago... well... i've finally finished processing...

I would love to hear some critique or thoughts about these shots.... the day made me respect what professional wedding photographers actually go through.... Here's a select couple of shots... they have obviously all been resized and quality reduced for easy browsing,

my favs:

1. The last one on the train tracks. Very original and great composition. Fantastic pp.
2. The second last one. Just a classic well framed and exposed wedding shop.

I'm sure the b&g were very happy with your work. Congrats.

Thanks Jonesy..... my favourites are #1 & #8....

the b&g seemed very happy... but their minds are still clouded with romance and the belief that nothing could be bad.. :)

some great work there,
i don't really shot weddings or people but here what i have to say:
i liked the last shot(reminds me of the cover to swordfish dvd) but the girl to the far right seems out of place, shes not looking the same direction.
was this intendtion?

shots 4+5 kinda lacked emotion maybe a pondering look from the bride in 4?
shot 7, the ladies sign is too much of as distraction.

but i think you still did a good job.

this was at the end of the day and my patience was quite stretched :) i asked for an attitude shot and to be relaxed and just to do their own thing.... everyone looked at the camera apart from the one....

Although my abilities pale into insignificance compared to you Mark, I have been through the marriage thing twice  and if I was the client:

1. Lovely use of focus, she'll love it.

2. To me technically excellent, but she'll hate it. Too many chins :)

3. Every bride wants a nice pic of their bouquet.

4,5 & 6. The wall.... They may love them and I know at least one member here has a brickwork fetish  but not to my taste.

7. I can see the artistic point of leaving the "ladies" sign in the pic and I'm sure they are ladies, but everyone who looks at it will know it's a dunny sign... I'd crop it out.

8. Textbook wedding pic, they'll love it. The way the light breaks through under her chin is very flattering.

9. My favourite. Imagination plus!!! Subtitle? "Jesse James gets Married"?.

Thankyou John... i appreciate the time you have taken to give some feedback..... i'm with you... i think the first one is going to be the winner of the shots....

there's something about brickwalls :)

oh dear... i hadn't even noticed the multiple chins.... time to do a little editing

cheers

You captured some great images there Xerubus. Like the masses I particularly like 1 and 8. The roses are also presented wonderfully - possibly a nice wedding album cover camo.

The soft look has served well in the images like 1 & 8 but some of the others look like they could be a little sharper.

Brick walls ... always a risk. You did well be didn't quite pull it off IMHO.

The way you have captured the bride and groom rarley looking at the camera has given way to some very high quality shots (again not having seen your entire coverage) you could also mix in a few more shots where they are looking at the camera. Eye contact can be powerful and doesn't need to look cheesy and set up.

Your use of profiles has worked well with this couple (eg No.8 ) - but finding sujects like this can be rare and profile shots are usually unflattering.

Brilliant effort for your first wedding!!!! (this was your first wedding shoot wasn't it?)

Are you refering to no.8 - the classic back-lit profile of B&G or no.9 the railway shot when you talk about the B&W conversion?

ahhh... sorry about that... yes... the railway shot was with the greg gorman process...

no. 8 was done with the same process as no. 1....

Craig... thankyou, once again, for your valuable info....

i agree with you on the brick wall... the idea was there, but unfortunately the contrast between the subject and the background was too much....

yes... first wedding shoot.... next one coming up in 4 weeks.. so plenty more planning on my part to come....

Jee I wish that I could take pictures of people as good as these. I rate them as excellent. They are very refreshing from the normal everyday pics that some photographers produce. My fav is the last one, although I would have placed the bride in front of the points rodding so that one could see the dress fully. And the second last captures the day and the moment beautifully.
Well done
Meic

xerubus you can be justifiably proud of this shoot. Some very original shots and in particular I like the shot of the bride and two bridsmaids outside the toilet.

Be interesting to clone out women and replace with men!!!
