leek,
I've seen her and talked to her, the skin tone is right and my thoughts are you've got the right exposure between the flash and camera.
You may play a bit more on the flash and experiments on the use of it nad the setting of the camera and be a :D camper.

Leek, enjoy your new purchase. I know it will enhance your photographic experience greatly. I'm sure you'll note its manual competes with that of the D70 in thickness too. ;)

I took a facial histogram -

You'll note that the mean of the buldge is towards the right. Ideally, it should be in the middle. This can be achieved by dialing in some negative flash compensation to tone down the brightness. In this case, it seems her face was overexposed by about 1 stop. Indeed, many users advocate dialling in 1.3FV for optimum exposures.

Thanks Onyx...

You're dead right... It is overexposed and having now played about with it in PS, I think I have a better version...

Nevertheless, straight out of the camera, this photo was so superior to anything that I've achieved with the inbuilt flash, I now realise why you have your pop-up flash heavily taped down...

 I have recently considred untaping it tho. It gets to be a bit of a hassle pulling the SB800 out of the bag when all I need is a bit of a boost in light.

The D70 and SB800 is the finest combination of camera/flashgun that I have ever used. It just works so naturally! You will take some beautiful pics with it.

Totally agree 8)
It’s quite hard to stuff an image up with this combination!! But it still happens.

Cheers
