Hi All, just had an urge to put the 80-400VR on and take a pic of the moon amongst the clouds as 10.17pm and 23 degree's.
Oh i was too slack to get the tripod out.LOL

Well i had VR on and cropped to 66%, no thought into it but just a spare of the moment but yeh came up ok.

shutter speed: 1/125
apeture f/10
focal lenght:400mm
ISO-200
metering: spot
exposure: shutter priority
Wish i could copy and paste data.
Was just a test and yeh VR really does work.

If that image doesn't invoke lens envy, I don't know what will..amazing shot mate..I also would love to see the EXIF details! Well done!

Looks good Christian, Yes it is a good nite for it as we have a bit of cloud around down here as well so had to shoot between clouds passing.

I was actually going to ask someone with this lens to do the full moon a couple of days ago, just to see how VR would hand the long exposure, long focal length dilemma, all whilst being handheld. How cool that you tried it !

I agree with you all - Im sold - thats one handy lens - makes me wonder what it could do with a tc on it -damn nice

I think something is going over my head..

I dont think there is one but i am guessing stubbsy isnt a lover of the lens maybe i think it was a post i seen on it, but well i dont seem to have many problems at all, i have no complaints yet and i did spend a whole day with it around my neck and on the monopod last weekend, so yeh bit of weight and well pics i took was ok even at high speeds, better if i remembered to reset the iso to 200 instead i forgot it was high so got some noise in my pics.
But look at this pic at 400mm.

No I'm just proving my lack of faith in the 80-400VR - I though the shot was too good and was intimating that BBJ may have given his lens a little assist with a TC or something and was pulling our legs.

Half right, John. If I'd never played with the 70-200 VR + TC 1.7 I'd love the 80-400 VR as it is a very good lens. I just think, for my purposes the 70-200 VR will be a better choice (once they become available again!)

And I like the bike shot - well done - shows very well what the lens is capable of.

Hi lezazzcat,

there isn't a long exposure when shooting the moon.
Try F11, 1/100 sec and see how you go.
You may go up to 1/300 and change your aperture to a lower number.
Let us know how you go.

HAHAHAHA Peter see mate it is possible, mate i have had good results with the 70-300G lens as well and think it is great for what the lens is, ok maybe not as fast as others but well i dont class myself as anything than a newbie to digital and photography and maybe just happens to be lucky to get the shots i can but it's how you use your tools i guess and so far good results after reading lots of put downs on some of these lenses.
But its all fun.

His 80-400VR is the new MY05 so the VR is now turbocharge

The 80-400VR could not use with any Nikon TCs, the only TC can be used is the Kenko or Tamron 2x, when you put that TC on the 80-400VR, it'll be slow/ darkness and can't be shot at night.

Those are great moonshoots. Handheld with the 80-400. Nice!

Thanks Birdy and Nicole, it was a spare of the moment impulse to put it on take a pic and see what it;s like and well as i haver never bothered to take a pic of the moon before i think it worked ok,got to try these things you know.LOL

You mean 200mm, right?

I probably shouldn't be typing at that time of night.

The moon shot was done with a 70-200mm VR plus TC-17EII
