Sigma 70-300 lens

This was one of only a few that seemed in focus. I think my panning technique needs work! Of course, the fact that I didn't realise that I was shooting on F22 until half way through the event (this is after I changed to a more helpful F8) didn't help.

I must admit that I only had a few keepers from the Roulettes photo shooting.
Today (Australia Day) was worse than yesterday.
I had 1/400s and f16 and many images were not sharp !
I guess I have to practise more.

F16 was the wrong f/stop to use. F/4 or even f/5.6 would have allowed you to use a much faster shutter speed. Even f2.8 would have worked well if you have a good lens.

To lock these PC9 Pilatus, you better have a fast shutter speed same as jet and can be used wide open cos the 70-200VR can handle these tasks very well, especially when the sky is overcast.

My good mate was at the Canberra festivities (he's the guitarist with Icehouse) and he reckons the highlight for him was talking to the Roulettes pilot who ejected after the collision the other day. Apparently, it was 2 seconds to make the decision to go, and 12 seconds from pulling the eject lever to feet on the ground! And it was all very scary - ejection being a controlled explosion, with a steel structure at the top of the back of the pilot's seat designed to smash through the canopy.

Oh yeah, he said the light show and fireworks was good too.
